We've talked about Scandinavian and French fashion in the past and about little tips and tricks to incorporate in your day to day style if you'd like to emulate them.

But what about British Fashion?

Perhaps you are reading me from abroad and you'd like to know what tiny things make British style unique.

Well, wait no more.

Great Britain has always been famous for its respect of tradition and its soft spot for really well tailored clothes. It's not an accident that many of the best tailors in the world are from the UK.

Hello Savile Row!

If you'd like to immerse yourself in this country's fashion atmosphere, here are a few tips:

  • Timeless pieces, especially tailored ones

Invest in pieces that never go out of fashion, there is a reason why they keep being worn over and over again. A good wool coat that is cut to perfection. A nice suit, a blazer that fits like a glove, the perfect trousers, you name it.

  • Gabardine

It's not just because it rains a lot (which, let's be honest, it does). Gabardines are one of the most British items of clothing out there. The material was invented by Thomas Burberry and since then it has become a staple in many of our wardrobes.

From the City folks to the teenagers knocking around Camden, everyone loves a gabardine and it can be worn in many ways. Let me know if you'd like me to suggest a few outfit ideas!

  • Tartan and squares

There are so many different types of tartan to choose from! Make it a skirt, a scarf, a belt, a hat...

  • Wellies

Wellies can be fashionable, no matter what people say! Perfect for those rainy days when you aren't sure if you live in a city or in the middle of the ocean. And one of the best tools to navigate British summer festivals!

  • Experiment, experiment, experiment

British people aren't afraid to experiment with their outfits, colours, accessories, go a little crazy and don't just follow the norm. Even the most conservative of outfits can be spiked up with the right touches.
